Key Features
Open Source
Bitwarden's entire codebase is publicly available and regularly audited by independent security researchers.
End-to-End Encryption
All vault data is encrypted locally with AES-256 before syncing — Bitwarden cannot read your passwords.
Self-Hosting
Run your own Bitwarden server for complete control over where your vault data is stored.
Send
Securely share encrypted text or files with anyone, even if they don't have a Bitwarden account.
Our Verdict
Bitwarden is the best password manager for users who want strong security without paying for it. The free tier is genuinely full-featured — not a crippled trial — and the open-source codebase means its security claims are verifiable by anyone. For security-conscious users on a budget, it's the clear choice.
